John Walker Lindh Revisited

You should read Tom Junod’s article “Innocent” about John Walker Lindh. It’s probably the first serious story written about JWL in years. I had been meaning to link to the blog of another Sulayman, who has a thorough biography of JWL. It complements the Junod article well. I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed reading them both. Lindh’s story tugs at me in a way that those of many others wrongfully imprisoned in GWOT do not.

I haven’t stopped by Sulayman’s site yet because it’s on Blogspot and I’m too lazy to try to find a decent proxy server (ah, the joys of surfing the Internet from China).

I have read the Esquire piece and I must say that it’s one of the most riveting articles I’ve read in a long time. I’ve also been fascinated by JWL since first seeing him on TV. That article definitely sheds some light on some questions I’ve had about him.

Anyway, thanks for sharing that. And here’s hoping JWL has finally settled on a name.

I had the pleasure to hear Sidi Khalil speak in Detroit back in 2002 in conjunction with the US tour of Habib Ali Al-Jifri. I regret I won't be able to make the short trip across the South China Sea to attend, but I recommend it to anyone in the area. The workshop is being sponsored by Simply Islam, under the capable hands of some of the fine people who put on the Journey to Ihsan event a couple years ago, which I did attend and enjoyed immensely.
