About
My name is Zayn Al-Abideen bin Gregory. In brief, I’m an American born in Michigan and raised mostly in Detroit. I converted to Islam in 1992 at the age of 17. I married a lovely Malaysian woman in 1997. I have a couple of college degrees that may or may not pay for themselves one day. By day, I teach young people to plant flowers. Sometimes, I plant a few myself. As of June 2009 I’ve been living in Kuching, Sarawak for six years with our small army of 6, soon to be 7, children.
The story of my conversion is not terribly useful to others, so I haven’t written about it. I flatter myself immensely to imagine that it was something like Christopher Khalil Moore’s but with less rock’n'roll, and something like Shaykh Nuh Ha Mim Keller’s but with less staggering intellectual power. Read those instead.
That’s the short version. I’ve posted other things about myself mostly from pure nostalgia: those are presented in the About Me Category. You’re welcome to have a look around.

Assalamualaikum,
I just thought your blog is amazing. I would like to share the link with my friends, if you don’t mind. Some great stories to be read.
Salam.
wa alaykum salam. Thanks for the kind words, and of course you can share with anyone.
Your Collegiate experience in America is not likely to encourage a respect for God. The Prophet, (peace be upon him), taught the love of God as best he could. God is so much greater. Now men understand contiguous dimensional worlds, which explain where God lives, how God created mankind to share Himself with us, and how His immense Love lets God express Himself as Triune. ‘Techie Worlds’ (available at Amazon.com) will give you an understanding of the contiguous geometry that explains where Heaven is. It shows that impossible things Jesus the Anointed One promised are mechanically possible and very logical in the higher spiritual worlds. Such is God’s love, that shares Himself with us, and teaches us to love one another. Read ‘Techie Worlds’ and become a true lover of God and of all his people.

Hi! I’m writing you on behalf of the Protection Project. We are collecting some insights from Islamic bloggers on the position of Islam regarding the Human Trafficking and we’d love to know what you’d have to say about the topic. What is your opinion regarding the stance of Islam on trafficking and exploitation of women, children and domestic workers? Thank you very much!

Author and Professor Dr Jamillah Karim spent a year living in Kuala Lumpur. Read this great interview by Sister Brooke, and then visit Dr Jamillah's blog for a series of thoughtful reflections on what living in Malaysia was like for her as an African American Muslim, what insights she gained about the immigrant Muslim experience in America and more.
Granfalloon (n) : "A proud and meaningless association of human beings." A word coined by Kurt Vonnegut (1922-2007) in his book Cat's Cradle. I was recalling the concept recently for some reason but couldn't bring the term to mind. There it is: A granfalloon. The idea is illustrated in the book by a woman from Indiana who is just thrilled to meet Hoosiers everywhere she goes, a Hoosier being a name for people from the state of Indiana, but the shared qualities she recognizes in Hoosiers exists only in her own mind. Thanks, Kurt.
